Bombay 106

Alcohol Content: 7.0%

Colour: Pale/Golden
Type: India Pale Ale

Origin
Named after the 106th Bombay Light Infantry which was formed from the East India Trading Company's 2nd Bombay in 1858, who later became the 2nd Batallion of the Durham Light Infantry in 1881. This type of beer was drunk in India at this time.

A true IPA with an authentic hopping rate and strength to match the original beer that was exported from Burton to India in the 19C. In the days before beers were filtered and sterilized, a live cask product had to be able to withstand the warm, mobile hold of a ship. The journey took some three months with continuous rocking and temperatures from approx. 11 degrees C to 30 degrees C. A slow secondary fermentation, high alcoholic strength and a large quantity of preserving hops ensured that the cask reached its destination in peak condition.

Tasting Notes
The palest maris otter malt provides a full bodied base for generous quantities of Goldings hops. Bitterness is pronouced, spicy and resinous but will smooth out over time.

Recommendations
A robust beer. Good on its own but try with highly flavoured food such as Indian cuisine.
